Free themes can be useful for if there is not much you are looking for in the appearance or the WordPress administrative back-end… However, if you would like great functional features with the appearance and back-end, a paid theme is the way to go.
Depending on the theme you get, a theme can effect the back-end in as many ways as adding its own plug-ins, widgets, and giving customizable theme options.
