Pages are default pages with information. Posts are news for web developers and blog posts for bloggers. A news page can be set to have only the latest posts available.

If there is no custom menu set for viewing, all pages show in main navigation by default.
A custom menu can decide what pages to show and can be implemented in as many was as the main navigation and a side navigation in the widgets section.
